Orkney Islands Hotels with Electric Vehicle Charging or EV Charging Stations
Avoid range anxiety on your next holiday or visit to Orkney Islands. Charge the Tesla or any other Electric Vehicle or Hybrid Petrol/Electric vehicle at any of these Orkney Islands hotels with EV charging stations.
DC (or direct current) charging is typically always faster than AC (alternating current) charging because batteries use/store DC power. DC power goes straight into the car and does not need to be converted by the cars onboard AC to DC converter leading to faster charge times.
Some hotels do offer free EV charging which are typically provided by the slower AC charging stations. Charging with a slow AC charger is not usually a problem if you are staying overnight.
There are also two main types of EV charging connectors CHAdeMO and CCS (Combined Charging System). CHAdeMO is a Japanese car standard, while CCS is used more commonly in cars made in (or for) Europe and North America.
Charging a lithium-ion battery to 80% is generally considered to be wise because charging rates (the time to charge not the cost) slow down dramatically after 80% and the long-term health of the battery is improved by not charging to 100% at every recharge. Most electric cars now have battery management systems (BMS) which often take care of battery health for you.
