Excuse buster Aussie holidays – turn “one day” into “next month”

  • by

Hands up if you’ve ever said, “One day I’d love to go to…”. So many different places we dream of seeing – but, sadly, even more excuses not to. Why not make today the day to start ticking those “one day” destinations off the list? Of course, if you’ve already found a great excuse not to, here are four very cool holiday ideas for “next month”…

Be loud, proud and let your revhead out of the closet at the V8 Supercar Championship Series at Winton Motor Raceway, Victoria from 20-22 May. Bask in the thunderous vibrations of those juice-guzzling beasts fighting it out on the track – but don’t forget to make regular pit stops along Trade Alley for food, drink, team merchandise and clothing.

Sink into a seat with your co-driver and feel the soothing rumbles of the jacuzzi at the Comfort Inn Albury Townhouse.

Ladies, ever wanted to try surfing, but been too scared to get amongst the boys? Then grab a dose of  girl power inspiration from the world’s best boardriding babes as they hit the stunning northern beaches of Sydney for the Beachley Classic, May 3 – 8.  While reigning champ Steph Gilmour and co dazzle the crowds and judges for a share of the lucrative prize pool, you can get a birds-eye view from the bars and restaurants along Dee Why Parade.

Back the Sebel Manly Beach Sydney you’ll find a great wine bar below and surfing lessons just a hop, skip and jump across the road.

Love to see nations go head to head in the sporting arena? Don’t sit around waiting for some Olympic thingamajig at the other end of the world when the Arafura Games take centre stage in Darwin from 7-14 May. Cheer on able-bodied and disabled athletes from more than 30 countries across the Asia-Pacific region who are coming together to battle it out in 20 unique events.

Oh, did we not mention the party? Great southern band Icehouse are rocking the opening ceremony on May 7, along with school kid dancers and everything else you cherish about mega sporting event celebrations (including, quite possibly, kangaroos on bikes).

Enjoy the magic of Darwin Harbour at Cullen Bay Resorts.

Trim your mullet and shape that peroxide mane into a seagull flock, because next month turns good old days at the Absolute 80s Dinner Dance in Langhorne Creek, South Australia on 7 May. This is the best (and hopefully only!) excuse you’ll ever have to dig out those shoulder pads and do the robot with MacGyver wannabes along to your favourite pastel decade music. Inside the themed marquee there will also be plenty of great local food to fuel your night of moonwalks, break dances and lambadas.

Hurry back to the future at the Mantra Hindmarsh Square in Adelaide.
