Bandung is Indonesia’s third largest city. Its nickname is Kota Kembang or, in English, Flower City. Because the city is surrounded by mountains, its climate is mild and cool. This is why many locals, especially from Jakarta like coming here for the holidays or on weekends. Bandung is much like other Indonesian cities. With a population of 2.7 million people, it is filled with offices, business centres, and residences. From Jakarta, Bandung can be reached by shuttle bus, car, train, or plane.
There are still a number of Dutch-styled buildings from the old Bandung era. These have, however, become threatened today as more and more corporations are taking down buildings to make corporate centres, banks, and malls. The Villa Isola, Savoy Homman Hotel, Gendung Sate, Gedung Merdeka, Cipaganti Mosque, and Grand Hotel Preanger are some of the only traditional structures left. Other interesting places to visit include the Geological Museum, Sri Baduga Maharaja Museum, Bosscha Observatory, and Saung Angklung Udjo.
There are constantly events that welcome everyone. For more information about the city, click here.
