The Information Centre in Morris Street houses a wonderful display of artefacts from local wrecks including the Loch Ard. The display brings to life the tragedy and heroics of a tumultuous era. View an accompanying DVD that details the recovery of some of the artefacts on display and tells the story of the final minutes of the 'Loch Ard.' View the display for a special perspective as you explore the cliff tops and seascapes that played backdrop to the drama.

With the charm of a fishing village, golden sandy beaches nestled into the lush green foothills of the Otway Ranges, Apollo Bay truly is 'Paradise by the Sea.' Located on the awe inspiring coastline of the Great Ocean Road, Apollo Bay is 186km south-west of Melbourne (or 2.5hrs to 3hrs by car).

Port Fairy is one of Victoria's most historic towns. There are over 50 buildings classified by the National Trust. However the town is not just about the past, there are beautiful beaches for swimming and fishing, lots of festivals and events including the famous Port Fairy Folk Festival held each March, and wonderful walking tracks that criss-cross the town.


Restaurants and cafe's line the streets, many in historic buildings and a range of accommodation is available with beautiful, shady caravan parks, houses, cottages and units, delightful B&B's and motels.


Port Fairy has a wonderful 18 hole links golf course consistently rated as one of Victoria's best. Other sports well catered for include bowls, cricket and Aussie rules football in the winter months.

Port Fairy is part of the Moyne Shire region which in turn is part of one of the largest volcanic plains in the world. Five minutes drive east of Port Fairy is Tower Hill Reserve, this is the volcanic remains of a nested maar volcano and is an area of significant geological interest.


Nearby at Macarthur the dormant volcano Mt Eccles forms the nucleus of a National Park with lovely walking tracks, a beautiful crater lake and an abundance of koalas.


Camping is allowed in the park for a nominal fee. If gem fossicking is of interest then fossick at the Mount Shadwell Quarry for the semi precious stone olivine which is also known as peridot.
