In 2010, Melbourne will welcome the 77th UCI Road World Championships. This event is second only to the legendary Tour de France in terms of importance and prestige in international cycling and it will bring the best riders in the world to Australia.



The popularity of the Tour de France in Australia and the excitement created by it will flow on to create unprecedented interest in the World Championships.


The event will be held over 5 days of competition from 29th September to 3rd October and features Elite Men and Women competitors as well as Under 23 Men s. Over 400 of the world s best cyclists will descend on Melbourne to compete in Time Trial and Road Race events based in Geelong. In addition to the challenging courses set in Geelong for these competitors, for the first time in a World Championship, the Elite Men s Road Race will begin in one city and finish in another with the start of the race in Melbourne, finishing with laps of the tough circuit in Geelong.

The Anaconda Adventure Race is an off road, multi discipline event taking competitors on an adventure filled journey through some of the most spectacular parts of Lorne, Otway Ranges and Great Ocean Road.


Attracting upwards of 1500 competitors the event has grown to iconic status and is affectionately referred to as "The Anaconda!"


The event is not necessarily for the faint hearted and you'll certainly earn your sleep in the sun afterwards, but smiling faces of competitors' as they cross the finish line show it's all worthwhile!


The event involves a 1.9km ocean swim across the spectacular Loutit Bay. following it back in the water with an awesome13km paddle under the cliffs and rocky shoreline back to lorne and the main transition area back on the lorne foreshore .Then it's the scenic 11.2km run taking athletes along an awesome coasteering section beneath the Great Ocean Road and then into the rainforest from the spectacular Cumberland Beach. Onto bikes for a challenging 22km mountain bike ride up the hills to Benwerrin and then the fun filled descent back to the coast and the final 2.5km team run to the finish!


The race may be completed as an individual where you complete all legs one after the other or in a relay team of up to 4 mates where you do one leg each, joining up for the team run to finish!


Complete with adventure expo on the foreshore with information and sponsor stands, MC announcements calling people over the finish line and plenty of other activities and the event is a real spectacle and great to be involved with as either spectator or competitor.

The Anglesea Rock 2 Ramp is an open water swim held at Point Roadnight Beach over a 1.2 km "U" shaped course.


Each year over 650 swimmers take the water and swim the course which is in a protected bay with the Anglesea SLSC providing the highest level of water safety per capita of all the swims in the area, although 905 swimmers hit the water for the Dec 2008 race.


Entry for the event can be made via the ASLSC website, however entries will be accepted on the day. All competitors are required to register at least 2 hours before the start of their race. The race has 6 age group categories for males and females ranging from 18 - 70+


An entry fee is payable by all competitors except the Hero category (70+) and fees are listed on the ASLSC website.

The Anglesea SLSC is hosting what is considered the pre-eminant Victorian senior lifesaving carnival at the Anglesea Main Beach.


Senior Surf Lifesaving carnivals are held throughout the state, culminating with the State Titles in March and the Australian Titles being held in Scarborough W.A.


These carnivals put to the test the skills of lifesavers across a range of disciplines, including, beach sprints, beach flags, surf ski, surf boat with the Ironman being the pinicple event.


The Anglesea carnival is one carnival that all competitors look forward to with beach conditions always providing a spectaclular sight for spectators. If you wish to see the best athletes competing across a range of disciplines, the Anglesea venue offers a great time.

The Anglesea Surf Lifesaving Club in conjunction with the Victorian Surf Rowers league is hosting a surfboat carnival at Main Beach, Anglesea.


Surfboats provide, depending on the beach conditions some of the most spectacular sites seen in surf lifesaving as the craft pound through and over waves.


This carnival is part of the VSRL Series for 2008/09 and is the first real hitout of the 2009 summer season and will provide spectators great viewing.


For competitors, Boat Access is via River Mouth from 9-9.30am and 1.30-2.00pm.

2010 will be the 29th anniversary of the Surf T Surf fun run/walk which has grown to over 800 competitors in 2009. Starting and finishing at the picturesque Lake Pertobe, the trail takes you through the Norfolk Pine lined streets or Warrnambool, Hopkins river precinct and finishes with stunning views of Lady Bay and the Southern Ocean. Free T-shirts, random prizes and a great family fun day.


Run - 10 kilometres (10am) / Walk - 6 kilometres (9.30am). Everyone welcome to enter. Prizes to be won.


Over the past 25 years the Surf T Surf Fun Run/Walk has been able to donate thousands of dollars to many community projects and fund raisers as well as aspiring young athletes. It is hoped that the event will continued to be supported by both the Warrnambool enthusiasts and visitors to the town.

The Australian Maritime Museums Conference is the peak maritime conference for Australia, and this years location in the heart of the Great Ocean Road makes it all the more special.

The highlight of the Carnival is the `Flying Horse Bar & Brewery Grand Annual Steeplechase, raced over 5,500 metres and consisting of 33 jumps. The Annual is the longest thoroughbred race in Australia and has the most jumps of any horse race worldwide.



The race does not follow the conventional course. Competitors leave the racecourse, gallop through paddocks and over roads in a clockwise direction. Horses then re-enter the racecourse and finishing in an anti-clockwise direction.



All three days of the Carnival are action packaged with quality racing, exceptional catering and great entertainment.

From well-known carnivores such as sharks, lions and crocodiles through to predatory insects, the exhibition explores fearsome jaws and claws as well as some of the more subtle techniques used by predators to survive. By merging the latest robotics with interactive techniques, the exhibition combines thrills and fascination with education in an unforgettable experience.


The National Wool Museum is offering a range of educational programs targeting students from pre-school to secondary school.


Particularly popular with students has been the Bite Me quiz experience, which presents information from the exhibition in a fun, interactive game show-like atmosphere. The new preschool and early year s program provides children with a magnifying glass and a sense of adventure as they embark on a journey through the exhibition to discover which creatures have the hairiest legs, the sharpest teeth and the loudest roars. Geelong Bottle and Collectables Club Inc. are hosting a Collectables and Bottles show at the Geelong Showgrounds.


Friday evening will see a relaxing BBQ for collectors to boast about their latest finds and possibly a club auction of quality collectables and bottles.


About 100 tables of displays and trading will see private collectors and dealers selling and swapping their antique collectable items.


Displays will see historic items proudly on show from many private collections. These collections are not easily seen by the public and to see them on display in a public venue is a real privilege and a great nostalgic treat.


Selling tables are available through David Smith. Set up will be Friday afternoon. A low entry price and reasonable stall holder fees will be set.

The Geelong St Patrick's Cup has been running for the past 130 years and is the feature event of Summer Racing in Geelong for St Pats.

The increasingly popular 2XU Great Ocean & Otway Classic Ride will return to the spectacular Great Ocean Road and Otway Ranges on Saturday 27th March 2010 - now in it's 4th year and recognised as the best recreational ride in Australia.





The event features the spectacular and breathtaking sights of the Great Ocean Road, the Otway Ranges, and surrounding quiet country roads.


All participants will receive the new-look 2XU event jersey, the highest standard of event organisation including medical support, mechanical support, refreshment stops, traffic management, on-course entertainment and a fantastic showbag!

The Great Ocean Road International Marathon is a new and adventurous concept in Australian distance running.


The GOR Marathon will be staged for the sixth time on the weekend of May 15-16, 2010.


The Great Ocean Road provides the most spectacular and challenging course of any marathon in the world and our program of events will appeal to runners and walkers of all abilities.


The international marathon is being publicised and promoted worldwide and has the capacity to appeal to runners and walkers of all abilities.


The marathon is designed to be a tourism drawcard for the Apollo Bay-Colac-Otway-Lorne region, four races will be held over the weekend.


Participants will compete for more than AUD40,000 in prize money, trophies and random awards.

This two day event is a sporting and water festival involving the sporting clubs in the Apollo Bay. The event will feature the following: Great Ocean Swim, Dash for Cash, Otway Adventure Race , 4 Kilometre Board & Ski Paddle, Otway mountain bike challenge , The Big Catch fishing competition and 5 and 10 kilometre Beach Run.

Experience all the spectacle, excitement and fun of a country show including cattle competitions, horse events, art and craft competitions (ie: embroidery, patchwork, knitting, sewing, fruit cake, school art and craft), dog events, chooks, goats, alpacas, sheep events, motorcycle riding competitions, Rural Ambassador Awards, Junior Ambassador Awards, carnival rides, various stalls. This years show also includes a floral art group who does a very beautiful display and are celebrating their 25th year of exhibition. The show will be dedicated to our local CFA Brigade doing an exhibit.

Course is wide and spacious with sweeping turns and a long straight. Most race starts have a decent run to the first turn. Soil type is loam and track is fully irrigated.

Pirra s colourful history includes being an institution for inebriates, a girls home and most recently an artist s colony. Following years of inactivity, the homestead has now been lovingly restored. Pirra s doors will be open so festival goers can take a sneak peek at the restoration.


The Lara Food & Wine Festival operates from 10:00am until 4:00pm on Sunday 28 March 2010 at the Pirra Homestead, 110 Windermere Road, Lara, Melway Reference 423-C2.

Dive in with 4000 other swimmers in the world's largest organised swim.


Each year thousands of swimmers dive into a sea of history and race the 1.2 kilometre course of the Lorne Pier to Pub, which started as an informal challenge among Lorne Surf Life Saving Club members.


It s now an action-packed weekend attracting people from near and far to both participate in the race and soak up the carnival atmosphere.


Over the past 29 years the event has grown in size and stature and now claims centre stage of a two day program that includes the Mountain to Surf Fun Run and Surf Boat Race Classic.


Since 3071 swimmers took to the water in 1998, the swim has been entered into the Guinness Book of Records as the world s largest open water swim.

Casterton Racing Club is the oldest sporting club in Casterton and the only racing club in the Glenelg Shire. We have the only live hedge steeplechase jumps in Australia which race in the point-to-point tradition.



The jumpers start inside of the course then head out into the open and jump over 4 - 6 foot high privet hedges along the banks of the Glenelg River before entering back onto the course proper. It is truly the most spectacular sight any person will ever witness. A true test of horsemanship!



One of the best winter racing tracks in Victoria. Set in a natural amphitheatre setting, rivers to the east & hills all around, this track boasts the best viewing for patrons. Casterton Racing Club is renowned for it's dominance of great winter racing and has enjoyed annual increases to both nominations and acceptances over the past few years. Set in the west of the state only 40 minutes west from Hamilton, 40 minutes south of Edenhope, 70 minutes north from Portland, 2 hours north west from Warrnambool, 40 minutes east from Mt. Gambier South Australia and 30 minutes east from the wonderful Coonawarra Region; base yourself in Casterton and have a look around this wonderful region of Victoria.

The Queenscliffe Maritime Swap Meet and Collectables Market is held on Sunday 6th December 2009.

Round number three of the Easter Sprintcar Trail will once again produce many highs and some lows for those brave enough to tackle three nights of gruelling Sprintcar Racing. With support acts from the Super Rods and NOS Sprints this is the only way to spend Easter Sunday. Gates open at 4.00pm; Racing from 6.00pm.

Starting on the Great Ocean Road in the picturesque town of Apollo Bay and finishing in the iconic MTB township of Forrest, the Otway Odyssey takes riders on a 100km mountain bike journey through a range of wild landscapes in an Odyssey sent from the gods.



This is a race along roller coaster single track so much fun you ll have a grin from ear to ear; it s a race up hills so steep you ll think your heart is going to leap from your chest; it s a race down flowing fire roads and white knuckle double track that will put tears in your eyes and memories in your mind and all this is amidst some of the most spectacular countryside you ll ever see.



This is arguably the toughest mountain bike marathon in Australia but if mountain biking was easy then everyone would do it. Set yourself apart and line up for the ultimate 100km mountain bike marathon and a journey you'll never forget.



The Otway Odyssey sets a challenging 100km course starting at the ocean and leading you on a journey through the ranges to the small township of Forrest and a massive festival right on the finish line. The course climbs and descends its way through a range of wild landscapes, races along sweeping single track and dashes down flowing 4WD tracks in an Odyssey sent from the gods.



There are three course options ready to challenge any rider:



The full 100km Otway Odyssey starts at Apollo Bay and finishes at Forrest providing ultimate bragging rights for all finishers!

The 50km Otway Shorty starts at Apollo Bay and finishes Forrest along a more direct route through the ranges.

The 15km Otway Pioneer starting and finishing at Forrest this fun but challenging loop is ideal for junior racers or beginners to the sport.

The 100km Otway Odyssey starts on the Great Ocean Road in the picturesque town of Apollo Bay and finishes in the iconic MTB township of Forrest. The course takes riders on a heroic mountain bike journey through a range of wild landscapes in an Odyssey sent from the gods - this is a race along roller coaster single track so much fun you'll have a grin from ear to ear; it's a race up hills so steep you'll think your heart is going to leap from your chest; it's a race down flowing fire roads and white knuckle double track that will put tears in your eyes and all this is amidst some of the most spectacular countryside you'll ever see.

The 50km Otway Shorty will see riders in this shorter distance event start and finish in Forrest with a new course including more single track, some lung busting hills and flowing fire roads in and around this mountain bike Mecca.



And finally the super fun, 15km Otway Pioneer will provide kids and newcomers to the sport with a taste of the mountain bike action including a fun and scenic loop along plenty of local single track around town that also starts and finishes at Forrest. 15km ride is limited to 250 riders.

Twenty venues host one of Australia's largest music festivals presenting roots, celtic, folk, country, bluegrass, blues, jazz, rock, crossover and world music.


Australia s world famous Port Fairy Folk Festival is a major event presenting international and national artists in a four day festival of music.


The festival began in 1977 and has received Victorian and Australian Tourism Awards. With more than 130 acts and 500 artists the festival is a vibrant and exciting cultural celebration which magically transforms the fishing village.


First class performances are held on large stages in the Festival Arena and at venues throughout the town plus there are market stalls, buskers and street events.


The Festival has broad appeal and attracts all age groups. It features a highly regarded children's festival, "The Folk Circus" and free Festival of the streets in addition to the marquee performances.


It is no surprise that it has become a "must go" weekend for a huge number of family groups and friends groups as it is a complete holiday with amazing and meaningful entertainment all within easy walking in most cases.


Top that off with a magnificent coastal setting in one of the oldest and most historic villages in Australia and it is no wonder that the event is world famous.

The festival will showcase local produce, including wine, olives, and cheeses. There will be mussels to sample and purchase, prepared in a variety of ways. They will be available to purchase fresh from the Pier, and a charter boat will run trips to the mussel farms. Weather permitting, The sailing ship Enterprize will also be in Port to provide short sailing tours. The Portarlington Dry Boat Artistic Event (Race) will once again be held down by the Pier.


This year the South American band, "Inka Marka" will entertain visitors outdoors, while other entertainment will be held inside the community hall.

An open water swimming race over a 1.2 kilometre course starting off the beach at Queenscliff, near the end of Symonds Street. Entrants swim to the end of the main pier, then proceed to the Pilot Pier, turn a buoy and return to the main pier and beach to finish. The funds from this event are used to award scholarships to junior swimmers of the Bellarine Peninsula.

Now in its 12th year, Queenscliff Music Festival is one of Australia's great festival experiences for music lovers. A family-friendly and just plain friendly festival, Queenscliff is much loved for its depth and diversity of musical talent as well as its picturesque seaside setting. The Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach is Australia s longest running and most prestigious professional surfing event. It is Stop 2 of 10 on the ASP Men s World Tour and one of the favourite stops for many pros.


The Rip Curl Pro is one of six Victorian Government-designated Hallmark International Sporting Events held in this state each year an honour it shares with the Melbourne Formula 1, Phillip Island Moto GP, Australian Tennis Open, Melbourne Cup and the AFL Grand Final.


The Rip Curl Pro will feature the world s top 45 ASP surfers plus two Rip Curl Wildcard competitors and one local Victorian Wildcard decided by the Victoria Place To Be Trials. Reigning ASP World Champion Kelly Slater is also the Rip Curl Pro defending champion after winning his third Bell in Easter 2008. Surfing s greatest pulled off a remarkable last-minute win over Australian Bede Durbidge in the Final and will come into the event as hot favourite this year. Although Kelly now has three Bell trophies ( 94, 06, 08) the Rip Curl Pro hasn t always been kind to the nine-time ASP World Champ. Bells can be a hard wave to work out and I think I m still learning things about it."

The Rip View Swim Classic is one of the "Big Three" Open Water Swims on the Victorian Open Water Swim Calendar, along with Lorne's Pier to Pub and the Portsea Swim Classic.


Each Summer thousands of keen open water swimmers participate in what is widely regarded to be one of the most enjoyable and friendliest open water swims conducted. It is also a great preparation and warm up for those who are participating in the Lorne Pier to Pub swim as it is one of only a handful of swims that are a straight line swim like Lorne.


The Point Lonsdale Surf Life Saving Club invites you to participate in one of the great open water swims and to support our Surf Life Saving Club. It is one that is especially good for those less experienced in open water swims or those that have not taken part in an open water swim before.

The largest dairy related field day in South Western Victoria. Featuring over 450 exhibitors with a range of products to tempt rural and urban folk alike, including farm machinery and vehicle displays and demonstrations, financial advisers and faming information, art and craft exhibits, fashion parades, cooking demonstrations and much more.

Set within a natural amphitheatre, a day at the Warrnambool races is a wonderful experience. Whether atop the hill watching the field navigate the Grand Annual Steeplechase to enjoying the acclaimed May Racing Carnival or a summer family fund day, Warrnambool is always exciting.

The Seafood Show is the only one of its kind in the world, over the ocean. On April 2nd and 3rd, the historical Queenscliff Pier will be transformed into a world-class exhibition showcasing recreational fishing equipment and technologies along with seafood products, marine safety and licensing.


Included is the Cellar Door, the perfect culinary pairing for the Seafood Show. A selection of Australian wine producers will be exhibiting with tasting and sales from the exhibition floor.

Victoria's historic coastal town of Queenscliff is home to the world's one and only Blues Train. It is a unique experience that combines four of Australia's best live acts and the beautiful scenery of the Bellarine Peninsula on the Drysdale Railway line while aboard a real moving vintage steam train. It is one of Australia's most spectacular entertainment experiences - it is a mini-festival in one night and a progressive party you'll never forget.


Nothing captures the spirit of the blues quite like a steam train. Listening to the train whistle and the clickety-clack on the tracks you can imagine the old blues masters jamming it up on Mississippi freight trains as they were 'ridin' the blinds' around America's deep south.


The Blues Train leaves Queenscliff Railway Station after guests have enjoyed a delicious meal complemented by fine Australian and local wines. The steam train then makes its way along 16 kilometres of track, gently rocking from side to side, seemingly in beat with the music.


At each of the stops, Suma Park and Drysdale, revellers swap carriages to see another of the acts, so by the end of the night patrons have seen all four acts performing on the train. Drinks are available from the mobile bar that miraculously appears on each platform (from the converted guard's van). You can sit back, relax and listen to the music with a drinking one of the seated carriages or get up and boogie the blues away in one of the dance carriages.

The Tabcorp Warrnambool May Racing Carnival is acknowledged as Australia's premier regional racing Carnival. The annual three day event attracts around 35,000 patrons from local, national and international markets.


The highlight of the Carnival is the 'Flying Horse Bar & Brewery Grand Annual Steeplechase, raced over 5,500 metres and consisting of 33 jumps. The Annual is the longest thoroughbred race in Australia and has the most jumps of any horse race worldwide.


The race does not follow the conventional course. Competitors leave the racecourse, gallop through paddocks and over roads in a clockwise direction. Horses then re-enter the racecourse and finishing in an anti-clockwise direction.


All three days of the Carnival are action packaged with quality racing, exceptional catering and great entertainment.


Tuesday is 'Ladies Day', showcasing the ever popular Ladies Luncheon. The days feature race is the '3YB Scotty Stewart Brierly Steeplechase'.

World Lighthouse Day:

A full day of activities to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Lady Bay Lighthouses Warrnambool. Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village is the base for this full day of activities across the village area.


Flagstaff Hill Antique Roadshow:

Throughout the day guests can bring in items, of photographs of items to be valued or assessed by a range of experts. Speciality areas include rare books, artworks, jewellery, furniture and other general items. This is a great way to see what that little item you have kept all these years is really worth, or find out its local history.


Warrnambool Historical and Family History Groups:

These groups will be on site to assist with local history or family history questions. a great way to get your local history story started.


Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village Rare Book Display:

Rare books that are held by Flagstaff Hill will be exhibited. These books are rarely on public display and include books from the original Warrnambool Mechanics Institute Collection.


Warrnambool Artist Society:

An exhibition of local art will take place through the day. A range of short workshops will also help you get started as a new artist.


Lady Bay Community Bonfire:

Right on dusk the community will be welcomed to join in viewing a community bonfire. Bonfires were often the first form of navigation before the security of a lighthouse was installed. Rug up and see the spectacular bonfire overlooking Lady Bay.
