Ardrossan Museum is located in the former factory of C.H. Smith who was a well-known South Australian manufacturer of agricultural machinery and developer of the Stump Jump Plough. This plough has legendary status in South Australia's history and is at the heart of the Ardrossan Museum's displays.

A small room contains relics from the sailing ship Zanoni, which sank off Ardrossan.

The original Harbour Masters Office from the jetty has now been renovated and set up as an old time store.

Corny Point Lighthouse , Corny Point, South Australia
Corny Point Lighthouse Tours and Attractions Completed in 1882 and made of limestone, quarried from a nearby farm. De-manned in 1920, the light continued to shine until 11 December 1942, when a Japanese invasion was feared and it was turned off for several weeks. It was converted to electricity in 1978.

Entries from the light keeper's logs describe how it survived earthquakes and other natural phenomenon such as seeing meteors flying past. Today the lighthouse reserve is open to the public.

Hillocks Drive , Marion Bay, South Australia
Hillocks Drive Tours and Attractions Hillocks Drive embraces several miles of spectacular, rugged coastline interspersed with quiet, sandy beaches and rock pools, a photographer's delight and a haven from the pressures of city living. Kangaroos, emus and native birds abound in nearby scrubland.

The entry gate is situated adjacent Hillocks Homestead, 43 kilometres south west of Warooka and 16 kilometres east of Marion Bay on the South Coast Road, but to enter you must obtain a permit for each vehicle and a key hired from the Homestead.

Bush camping is permitted. Drinking water, bait, ice and some supplies are available. Hot showers are available at Homestead. Safest beaches are marked with an “S”. All other areas must be considered risky at all times.

Flora and fauna are protected and strictly no hunting or destruction of vegetation.

Bush camping is permitted but campers must contact the owner. Effective June 18 to August 18 inclusive Hillocks Drive will be closed.

Inneston Historic Walk Tours and Attractions Inneston Historic Walk is a four kilometre return walking trail taking approximately two hours. This well marked trail takes the visitor back to the early 1900’s and the gypsum-mining era. Interpretive signs tell the story of the close-knit community of Inneston village. The lonely ruins stand proudly as a reminder of those bygone days. A very popular walk, starting from just inside the gate at the Inneston car park. Be aware of unstable ruins.

Make sure you carry enough water and tell someone where you are going. Don't forget a hat and sunscreen.
Investigator Strait Maritime Heritage Trail , Edithburgh, South Australia
Investigator Strait Maritime Heritage Trail Tours and Attractions Discover the shipwrecks of the Investigator Strait Maritime Heritage Trail on the beautiful Yorke Peninsula.

Between 1849 and 1982, 26 vessels are known to have been wrecked in these waters, with the loss of more than 70 lives. Many of the wrecks are a haven for aquatic life and attract diving enthusiasts from around the world.

The shipwrecks along the trail were selected for various reasons: the strange and tragic circumstances surrounding their loss; their historical significance; or because they provide a fascinating underwater experience for beginners and advanced divers. A number of wrecks still await discovery.

Six land-based interpretive signs are located along the coastline to assist in the interpretation of the wrecks. A water-proof booklet is available from the Department for Environment and Heritage Information Line for a small fee.

Kadina Golf Club Tours and Attractions Kadina Golf course is a par 72, 5851 metres and has an Australian course rating 68. Ladies golf day is on Tuesdays and the men's golf day is on Wednesday and Saturdays.

At the moment the course is only opened during March to October, however the club is in the process of irrigating the whole 18 holes so that we can play all year round. This will take two years to complete.

Kadina Golf Club opened in 1904. In 1979 the old clubhouse was replaced with a large and modern building, which has had extensive renovations since.

Miners Cottage And Garden Tours and Attractions The National Trust Miners Cottage is a typical Cornish cottage built about 1870 and furnished in the pre-1900 period. Built of wattle and daub, mud bricks, clay and limestone and given a coat of plaster and whitewashed, many of these cottages were to be found throughout the mine residential area.

The floors were frequently made from packing cases and the internal walls of hessian were covered with paper and whitewashed. The best room always had a double bed with canopy, cedar chest of drawers, and washstand with a set of bedroom china. There would also be a parlour with several cedar chairs, a harmonium, and a book of Wesley's hymns, a family Bible and so on.

Minlaton Walking Trail , Minlaton, South Australia
Minlaton Walking Trail Tours and Attractions Minlaton Walk starts at the Visitor Information Centre and heads north along the Main Street to the H J Cook Fauna Park, which contains emus, wallabies and kangaroos. From there you head past the basketball courts, meandering through bush and along the edge of the golf course. Along the walk there are interpretive signs regarding the River Red gums - Minlaton is the only area on the Southern Yorke Peninsula that these trees grow naturally. There are also signs about the early settlement of the area, which was known as Gum Flat. There are two options to finish the walk - follow the trail through the Sheoak Grove and continue back to Harvest Corner. The alternative finish takes you through to the Bird Hide and then along the Main Street past the Minlaton Town Hall back to Harvest Corner.

Erected in 1878, this building now houses thematic displays on the Cornish miners' lifestyles - mining, lodges and friendly societies, sports and pastimes, death and hardship; extensive displays of costume, china, silverware, photographs and memorabilia and a classroom furnished circa 1900. There is also a display on the World Wars.

Moonta Mines State Heritage Area , Moonta Mines, South Australia
Moonta Mines State Heritage Area Tours and Attractions This state heritage area covers most of the former Moonta Mining Company lease. A tourist drive starting from the Moonta Town Hall leads through the Cornish cottages housing area, passes the church, Hughes Pump House ruins, Taylor’s shaft, the deepest, the ruins of the ore concentrating plant at Richman's. A walk to the lookouts on the top of the skimp heap gives an aerial view of the whole area.

Information signs enable visitors to relate existing ruins to former structures. The tour includes Ryan's shaft where copper was first discovered in 1861, over ore sorting floors, and the National Trust Miners Cottage and Hancock's skimp heap and lookout. The mining area is amongst the most significant in Australia, illustrating the early mining and treatment of copper ores, mostly by Cornish immigrants.
Moonta Mines Sweet Shop , Moonta Mines, South Australia
Moonta Mines Sweet Shop Tours and Attractions Moonta Mines Sweet Shop is located in the former Moonta Mines Post Office built in 1946 and operated as a Post Office until the mid 1970s. The building was refurbished as a shop in 1979 and upgraded by the National Trust in 1998. The Sweet Shop sells a large range of old-fashioned sweets and drinks.
Moonta Mines Tourist Railway , Moonta, South Australia
Moonta Mines Tourist Railway Tours and Attractions A 50 minute round trip by narrow gauge rail, passes the reservoir and ore sorting floors then through a tunnel in Ryan's Tailings Heap.

It visits the former Precipitations Works for an inspection of the story of copper recovery and then onto the Moonta Railway Station to begin the return journey.

Departing from the Station adjacent to the Moonta Mines Museum, the train leaves on the hour, except in extreme weather conditions.

Ryans Walk is a short walk of about 500 metres and takes about one hour. Hancocks Walk - from the miners cottage or sweet shop - is approximately 45 minutes return. Hughes Walk is a short loop around historic Hughes Engine House and takes about one hour.

Interpretive signs illustrate the geology of Moonta ore bodies and the mining methods used to work them. A trail brochure is available from the Moonta Tourist Office and the Moonta Mines Museum.

It's a fascinating part of South Australia's mining history, and well worth a look.

Moonta Tourist Office Tours and Attractions This beautiful old building was erected by Gambling and Son of Adelaide and opened in 1909. It replaced an old timber and iron station, which was erected in 1878. The present building is one of several built throughout the state of the same design, including the Wallaroo Railway Station, which has been altered in recent years.

The station is set in spacious grounds and is now the home of the Moonta Tourist Office. Open seven days a week from 9am to 5pm, visitors have access to information on attractions, accommodation, community services and special events. Souvenirs are also available.

Ample car, coach and caravan parking available and public toilets (including disabled) are on site. All pieces are crafted on the premises by Dawn Wade, one of Australia's foremost ceramic artists. She is also an internationally qualified ceramic judge and is the chief judge for the South Australian Ceramic Association’s annual exhibition.

Apart from the delicate, original design articles for sale, the display also features many examples of Dawn's art, which have won prizes in exhibitions, both locally and interstate.

Individual pieces can be created to match your decor, for example, your curtain material, furnishings, wallpaper, kitchen tiles or bathroom tiles and all other supplies. Just bring a sample and choose the pieces that you want.

The list is only limited by your imagination and finished pieces can be shipped anywhere in Australia.

Port Broughton Historic Walking Trail Tours and Attractions There are two Walking Trails at present in Port Broughton and a third one in Fisherman’s Bay is in the planning stages.

Walk around Broughton. The history of Port Broughton is revealed as you walk around this small town. Along the way you will notice the historic landmarks such as where the Old Station was (1885), the original Council Chambers (189), the restored Cottage (1898) and the various churches (1885 to 1902). The Walk finishes at the Port Broughton Hotel.

Interpretive Signs Encounter Walking Trail. Start this walk at the jetty and follow the information leaflet which takes you north along the foreshore to the boat ramp then John Lewis Drive to the Bayside Caravan Park. Read the five interpretive signs en route. Then walk back on the shoreline of the Bay. It is an easy stroll of approximately three kilometres.

Port Victoria Museum Tours and Attractions The Port Victoria Museum is a small museum that tells great stories of the sea. From this port the last of the windjammers sailed to Europe in the late 1940s.

You can imagine how the town bustled in the heyday of the grain trade to Europe. The ketches jostling for position along the jetty, the windjammers anchored in the bay, the labourers loading grain, the horses and carts making their deliveries and the sailors busily preparing the ship or enjoying some relaxing hours on land.

Yorke Peninsula is a renowned mecca for recreational divers keen to explore the many shipwrecks along the coast. Port Victoria is the starting point for many a diver's underwater explorations. But landlubbers take heart. With its rich collection of shipwrecks artefacts on display, the Port Victoria Museum is the place for you to encounter the coast's shipwreck history.

Port Vincent Walking Trail Tours and Attractions Port Vincent Walking Trails include:

A one and a half kilometre trail leaves Marine Parade for shoreline walk to 126 steps with handrail leading to Golf Course Road. Return via Golf Course Road for cliff top lookout, then via beach or back to town along roadway.

A second trail about one and a half kilometres departs Marine Parade for walk in picturesque water reserve with outlets to Buttfield Avenue and Golf Course Road or return to starting point. A timber bridge and boardwalk cross the dry creek bed.

The third trail about one and half kilometres departs The Esplanade with steps to 800 metre long cliff top trail, with steps at southern end leading to the beach. Return along the beach or back along the trail. Enjoy scenic views with possible sightings of dolphins.

Trails include route maps with times and distances.

There are seats along some trails.

Public Art Sculpture - The Cutter Canberra Tours and Attractions ‘The Cutter Canberra’ interpretive sculptor stands proudly on a hillside over looking the sea. The fishing boat called the Canberra was donated to Kangaroo Island sculptor Indiana James by well-known South Australian fishing identity Michael Angelakis who's family originally owned the boat. Indiana conferred with arts colleague Margie Davies of Wallaroo about creating 'something' from the remains. The idea of creating a boat sculpture were taken to the Wallaroo Town Development Association's Working Group which led to an outstanding community development project.

The name 'Canberra’ was chosen by the Angelakis family symbolising their migration to Australia as Greek migrants and to honour their new home.

Historically the sculpture symbolises the many migrants who moved to Australia. Today it relates to the thriving fishing industry, the farming industries where grain ships dock at Wallaroo and also symbolises the recreational fishers and yachts men and women who sail out of Wallaroo.

The early history of Wallaroo Mines and the Kadina Township is included along with the National Trust building, Matta House. This mine manager's residence built in 1863 still has a shingle roof and is furnished to reflect the height of the mining era. A schoolroom refurbished to its 1950s origins is a favourite with school groups. A new display looks at farm children.

Thomson-Pfitzner Plaster Trail Hike Tours and Attractions The Thomson-Pfitzner Plaster Trail Hike is a three point eight kilometre return walking trail taking approximately one and a half hours. The Thomson-Pfitzner Plaster Trail Hike begins just after the horse stable ruins along the Inneston Historic Walk at Inneston and ends at Stenhouse Bay. The Thomson-Pfitzner Plaster Trail Hike follows the old wooden railway line that once ran from Inneston to Stenhouse Bay. Colourful interpretive signs take you back in time to relive those days of yesteryear.
Troubridge Hill Lighthouse , Edithburgh, South Australia
Troubridge Hill Lighthouse Tours and Attractions Special wedge shaped clay bricks were custom made to build this unusual lighthouse. It is designed to be resistant to high winds and earthquakes, as in the early 1900's the area experienced numerous earthquakes.

Measuring 32 metres high, Troubridge Hill Lighthouse has a light range of 22 nautical miles and operates off mains electricity with a backup generator.

Troubridge Island Lighthouse Tours and Attractions The second lighthouse to be built in South Australia, Troubridge Island lighthouse was completed in 1855 and was the first Australian lighthouse to be built of cast iron. After the ship 'Marion' was wrecked on what is now known as Marion Reef, the Government investigated, building a lighthouse on Troubridge Island.

The lighthouse was prepared in England and shipped in pieces to Australia and was manned from 1856 to 1981. The island became a conservation park in 1982 when purchased for AUD42,000 by the State Government.

Wallaroo Fauna and Wildlife Park Tours and Attractions The Wallaroo Fauna and Wildlife Park comprises many species of fauna and birdlife, both native and introduced, all within a natural setting.

Animals include deer, kangaroos, wombats, emus, peafowl, poultry, ducks, geese and much more. Time your visit for an hour before sunset and you may be lucky enough to see the animals at feeding time.

The Club has reached a milestone in its history and is proud of what has been achieved by past generations and current members of the Wallaroo Golf Club over the last 100 years. Mid 2009 will see the opening of a new Clubhouse, which will provide facilities for golf, bowling and croquet players, conferences and catering, “A Jewel in the Crown” for the Yorke Peninsula.
Wallaroo Heritage And Nautical Museum , Wallaroo, South Australia
Wallaroo Heritage And Nautical Museum Tours and Attractions Originally a post office, the museum features displays of the copper smelting era, postal and telephone history, religious and civic affairs, early pioneering personalities, industry, sport, entertainment, nautical display and general local history of Wallaroo.

See George the Giant Squid obtained from the stomach of a whale 30 years ago and now preserved in formalin, its body is five feet long and 28 feet long with its tentacles outstretched, plus a 30 foot racing boat and a water pump used for copper smelting.

The former 1877 Tipara Reef Lighthouse can be seen in Investigator Park in front of the museum.

Tour guides are available for coach visits. Group bookings are welcome in advance. Project sheets can be arranged for school groups. Visitors can contact historian Nick Woods, Museum Research Officer who may be able to trace family connections with Wallaroo. Souvenirs, tourist information and soft drinks are also available.

Wardang Island Maritime Heritage Trail , Port Victoria, South Australia
Wardang Island Maritime Heritage Trail Tours and Attractions The Wardang Island Maritime Heritage Trail offers eight amazing dive sites around Wardang Island near Port Victoria in the Spencer Gulf.

The west coast of Yorke Peninsula was once an important trading port in the early 1900s, and was one of the last Australian ports to see large square-rigged sailing vessels operate on a commercial basis.

Of the eight wrecks featured in this trail, the Monarch, S.S. Australian, S.S. Investigator, MacIntyre and Moorara were small local schooners and coastal steamers. The Aagot, Notre Dame D'Arvor and Songvaar were three masted square-riggers which carried the grain overseas.

The Wardang Island Maritime Heritage Trail includes a waterproof booklet for underwater use, plaques adjacent to each of the eight shipwrecks and six land-based interpretive signs located at Port Victoria. Booklets can be purchased for a small fee from the Department for Environment and Heritage Information Line.
Wheal Hughes Copper Mine , Moonta, South Australia
Wheal Hughes Copper Mine Tours and Attractions The Wheal Hughes underground copper mine at Moonta is an exciting adventure with visitors donning boots, hard hats and helmet lights. They descend to a depth of 55 metres to experience the massive chambers with multicoloured veins of ore and learn how Cornish miners worked in the 1800s.

Visitors must book at Visitor Information Centre, and be on site at the mine 15 minutes prior to tour. Special packages with other National Trust Mining Heritage sites can be pre-booked. Visitors are advised that a reasonable degree of physical fitness is required to tour the mine. Not available for children under six years of age. School groups and bus tours welcome, when pre-booked.
Wool Bay Golf Club , Wool Bay, South Australia
Wool Bay Golf Club Tours and Attractions Wool Bay is an attractive small seaside town situated between Stansbury and Coobowie.

Wool Bay Golf Club is a non-irrigated nine-hole course with scrapes.

This course is 5,635 metres and has a Par 70 with an Australian Course Rating 66.

On Tuesday and Saturday each week in the afternoon we hold men and women's competitions.
