Flinders Ranges And Outback Guides Attractions Events in South Australia
Fat Tyre Festival
,
Melrose,
South Australia

The Melrose Fat Tyre Festival is a weekend of superb single-track riding amongst the ancient Red Gum trees in the foothills of Mount Remarkable. There are nearly 100 kilometres of trails ready for some nifty moves, from green tracks for beginners to blue runs for the more experienced - and of course black runs for those who are pretty handy with a treadly. The packed program offers rides every morning and afternoon, plus skills sessions, basic maintenance courses, night riding, evening feasts and a big party on Saturday night with a live band for all the family. And the best part of it - no vehicles required once you are in Melrose - all rides take about one minute to get to the trailhead, and we have two pubs for our population of 200 people. There'll be campfire fun, the clunker criterion held in the main street, spectacular dirt bike displays and the relaxed and friendly atmosphere that Melrose is famous for. Need any more reasons? Check our website for the full program.

Laura Folk Fair
,
Laura,
South Australia

Ever eaten a litre of ice-cream in just over a minute? That’s the record set in 2009 at the Golden North Ice-cream Eating Competition at the Annual Laura Folk Fair. Other competitions include the Digby Carter Whip cracking and the Laura Literary Awards. There are also over 100 art, craft, hobby and refreshment stalls, selling a wide range of goods. These stalls line the closed street which becomes a mall for the visitor to wander. Entertainment is nonstop during the festival and there is special entertainment for children of all ages. A twilight Bush Dance is held on the Saturday evening followed by a fireworks display. The Showmen’s Guild of South Australia supplies the entertainment in Side Show alley. Entry is free, and all entertainment supplied by the organising committee is free. Come and have a great family weekend with us.
