Adelaide Gaol Historic Site and Museum , Adelaide, South Australia
Adelaide Gaol Historic Site and Museum Tours and Attractions The Adelaide Gaol was a working prison between 1841 and 1988. It is now a museum, which tells the Gaol’s 147 year history in displays, exhibitions and tours. Displays include the story of Elizabeth Woolcock, the only woman to be hanged in South Australia and Sister Mary MacKillop, a regular visitor to both male and female inmates.

Open Sunday to Friday 10am to 3.30pm (last ticket purchase time) for self guided tours. Guided tours can be arranged for groups and are one-and-a-half to two hours duration. There are also regular Sunday guided tours, for a small fee, at 11am, 12pm and 1pm depending on the availability of guides. Ghost or Historic night tours can be arranged for groups of 12 or more, or you can participate in a 'public tour' of up to 20 people held every Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Be among those who have seen and heard strange things in the Gaol! Public night tours are not suitable for those under 15 years of age. Bookings are essential Monday to Friday throughout business hours.

These wrecks represent a variety of vessels associated with trade and development in South Australia during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and span the period of British shipbuilding from 1841 to 1893.

The remains demonstrate the four major types of materials used in sailing vessel construction during that era - wood, composite (wood and iron), iron and steel.

This trail, which extends from the Star of Greece, off Port Willunga, to the Zanoni, about 15 kilometres south east of Ardrossan, includes a brochure and four underwater plaques placed adjacent to each wreck.
