Augathella Kenniff Tree , Augathella, Queensland
Augathella Kenniff Tree Tours and Attractions There is nothing like having a connection to Bushrangers. During the late 1800s and early 1900s, the notorious Bushrangers, the Kenniff Brothers tethered their horses under this magnificent old Coolibah tree, between their many cattle and horse stealing escapades.

Growing up in New South Wales, the boys moved to Queensland in the 1890's. After several years of this rascally lifestyle the boys were finally captured, their trial was held at the Roma Magistrate Court.

Their fate - one sentenced to jail, the other hung. Further information on the Kenniff Brothers is on display at the Kenniff Tree in Augathella.

A hotel was built nearby at a later date, and when Surveyor G.T. Weale laid out a township in 1884, he gave it the name Canterbury, because the Post Master General's Department would not accept J.C. as a town name. The township and the run was officially named Canterbury, but the hotel continued to be referred to as "The J.C.".

Moorrinya National Park , Hughenden, Queensland
Moorrinya National Park Tours and Attractions In the heart of the Desert Uplands, Moorrinya National Park protects 18 land types in the Lake Eyre Basin, one of Australia's most important catchments.

This remote park has dry, flat plains criss-crossed by watercourses and covered in open eucalypt, paperbark and acacia woodlands and grasslands. Moorrinya is a wildlife refuge, protecting Australian icons such as kangaroos, koalas, emus and dingoes, as well as rare and threatened species such as the square-tailed kite, squatter pigeon and Julia Creek dunnart.

Moorrinya National Park was initially established as the sheep grazing property, Shirley Station. In the late 1970s, cattle replaced sheep and grazing continued until the park was established in 1993. Much of the sheep station infrastructure, dating back to the late 1940s, remains as a reminder of the spirit and hard work of the people who lived in this remote part of Queensland.
Morven Branding Board , Morven, Queensland
Morven Branding Board Tours and Attractions Visit the Morven Branding Board because the branding of cattle is an integral part of raising cattle. The 'brands' are unique designs that belong to each cattle property.

In the past, using a hot branding iron, the brands were branded onto the skin of the cattle, as proof of ownership of that particular Stations' cattle. Today many owners now use indelible ink stencils to 'brand' their cattle. A recent innovation is to insert micro chips under the skin of the cattle.

To celebrate the year of the Outback in 2002, a re-enactment of the Harry Redford Cattle Drive was carried out. As the Cattle Drive travelled through Morven, the Community got together to celebrate the occasion, by burning their local cattle brands into a piece of bloodwood 'The Branding Board'.

The branding Board is a collection of Brands from the surrounding properties who paid to have their mark placed on this board. Monies raised were then donated to the Starlight Foundation. Please take a look at each brand and you will notice some innovative designs. For cattle people often a quick glance at the brands is all they need to recognise the station that the cattle have come from.
