Exciting wreck diving is to be had at the historic 'Llewellyn' site, east of Mackay on the Great Barrier Reef. The steamer was last seen departing Cape Capricorn Lighthouse on 17 July 1919 and disappeared during heavy gales as it sailed from Rockhampton to Bowen. The location of the vessel remained a mystery until 1997, when the shipwreck was located 35 kilometres east of Mackay.

North of Moreton Island lies a 50 metre iron barque which sank in 1894 after a 122 day sail from New York, carrying a cargo of kerosene, glassware, wire bails and alarm clocks. Timber artifacts under the sand have been preserved from being drenched in kerosene. The Aarhus is considered one of Australias first major marine oil spills!

"The Moltke" is a wreck dive accessible from the shore on Magnetic Island. The old cargo Boat has been here for over 70 years. The structure is fairly broken up providing many corners and holes for marine life to hide in. Batfish, Grouper, Squirrelfish, Butterflyfish and Damselfish make this home. Crayfish and Nudibranchs can often also be found.

Located one kilometre east of Moura on the Dawson Highway, the 150th Meridian marker shows the position of the imaginary line (150 °E) on which Queensland (Eastern Standard) time is based.

At the time of the equinox, a day is exactly 12 hours long anywhere on the Meridian line.

The meridian line in Greenwich represents the Prime Meridian of the world, Longitude Zero (0° 0' 0"). Every place on the Earth is measured in terms of its angle east or west from this line.

'Holey rocks' like the ones at the Meridian Marker can be found all around Moura. They are a product of the process used for blasting of rock in Coal Mining.

Take a sighting through the holes and you're looking along the 150th Meridian.

At the 18 Mile Warrego River Fishing Spot you will find your own slice of Warrego heaven just 28 kilometres north of Charleville. The Warrego River stretches from Carnarvon Gorge in the north to Bourke in the south.

Fish common in this river system include: yellowbelly, catfish, murray cod, silver perch and spangled perch. Yellowbelly occur naturally in river systems west of the Great Dividing Range and is the number seven fish on the Department of Primary Fisheries ‘top angling fish in Queensland’.

This building at 264 Kent Street was erected in 1875 and was occupied by J H Bliss, a watchmaker and jeweller, who specialised in the supply and repair of maritime chronometers, barometers, sextants and navigational instruments. This business served the busy port of Maryborough during the 1880s. Visitors to the port may even have availed of Bliss’ skills as a maker of artificial teeth.

In the great tradition of many Australian place names, 75 Mile Beach on Fraser Island, was so named because it is approximately 75 miles long. Due to the constant movement of sea and sand, it's not always exactly 75 miles long, but then, ‘75.173 Mile Beach’ just wouldn't have had the same ring to it.

75 Mile Beach runs along most of the east coast of Fraser Island. While it may not be the best place for swimming due to dangerous currents and plentiful Tiger sharks, it is extremely beautiful and has a number of excellent highlights such as Champagne Pools, Indian Head (from where you can often see the sharks in the surf), the Maheno Wreck and Ely Creek. Ely Creek is strikingly clear and has its own its own unique and varied wild life.

The beach also acts as both a highway and a runway. The hard packed sand below the high tide mark can make for quite smooth driving, but care must be taken with speed; there are many deep wash outs and you can suddenly find yourself driving vertically into one if you're going too fast. Aircraft often land on the beach and if you can afford it, this mode of travel is a great way to see the entire island in a short space of time, with the obligatory beach landing, of course.

The Adventure Way takes you from Brisbane to Adelaide via Queensland's richest grain and cotton producing area surrounding Dalby. The Airlie Beach Lagoon is situated right in the centre of Airlie Beach and has become the focal point of the area. When you want to meet someone you meet "at the Lagoon". The Albert River circuit within Lamington National Park, leads off the Border Track five kilometres from the trail head. The track winds down to Lightning Falls and follows the left branch of the Albert River upstream to Echo Falls and Echo Point. Between the falls and Echo Point, you walk through warm temperate rainforest dominated by coachwood trees. This is one of the few places in the park where you can see this type of rainforest.

Along this walk, you will also see spectacular creek scenery with mossy rocks and ancient Antarctic beech trees. Echo Point, overlooking the Tweed Range and Lamington wilderness area lives up to its name, if you try calling. Return to Green Mountains section (O'Reilly) back along the Border Track.

The Allan Tannock Weir is situated on the Warrego River five kilometres south of Cunnamulla. There is a picnic area with wood fuel barbecue, swimming and fishing are permitted one hundred metres from the Weir Wall. A boat ramp is situated five hundred metres up river from the Weir. The area is shaded by River Red Gums, Coolibahs and Tea Trees. There are walking trails and prolific birdlife. Bird lists are available from the Cunnamulla Visitor Information Centre. The Allan Tannock Weir is part of the Stock Route and historically known as Keane's Crossing.

As the region's largest coastal park, Bowling Green Bay National Park contains diverse habitats. Its coastal plains are dramatically set against a backdrop of rugged granite mountains rising abruptly in the distance. In this section of the park, Alligator Creek flows between two rocky mountain groups - Mount Elliot and Saddle Mountain. Camp at the Alligator Creek campground. Visit for the day, picnic among the gum trees and swim in the creek. View agile wallabies and rock-wallabies as they feed nearby. At night, common brushtail possums and rufous bettongs 'patrol' this area.

Alligator Creek flows through Bowling Green Bay National Park in a series of cascades, deep pools and waterfalls.

The walk starts from the southern end of the picnic area. A lower lookout is located 500 metres along the track. The track continues on another two kilometres to Cockatoo Creek. "Flat Rock" is an ideal place for a rest and a swim. From Cockatoo Creek the track then meanders roughly parallel to the creek, following powerlines, through open woodland forest to Hidden Valley. Across the creek the valley narrows, with Mount Elliot and Saddle Mountain framing the landscape. The track follows a series of steps ascending through a rocky vine-thicket (some rock scrambling required) and suddenly arrives at the falls. Access to the waterfall is not possible.

As the walk is long, visitors are advised to commence walking in the morning to allow time to safely return during daylight hours. Carry water and wear sturdy footwear. In order to get to the falls, visitors must cross the creek on four occasions. These crossings vary in depth from ankle-deep to approximately waist-deep, depending on season and weather conditions.

Aloomba Lavender on the Mount Lindesay Road (three to four kilometres north of Liston) is part of a 4,000 acre cattle property set in picturesque rolling hills. The 20,000 established lavender plants form a pretty pattern whether in flower or not (great opportunity for photographs). They have award winning Essential Lavender Oil and lavender products for purchase.

The well stocked gift shop and the tranquil bed and breakfast rooms are very popular. Bus groups and casual visitors are received in a friendly, family atmosphere for tea and coffee. Harvesting begins in mid November. Open every day except Christmas and bookings welcome. An informative talk can be given to larger groups on request if time permits.

A three hour drive from Brisbane and the Gold Coast, Aloomba Lavender is close to Queensland's wine country near Stanthorpe and the Granite Belt. With several routes from which to choose, Aloomba Lavender an excellent destination for your weekend tour or trip.

Alpha is branded the ‘Town of Murals’ due to the 27 colourful murals painted on buildings throughout the town. Each mural depicts a different aspect of pioneering and contemporary rural life.

Two local artists Alice McLaughin and Benny Fuentes, both members of the Alpha Cultural Group decided to brighten up the town with their artistic skills after a devastating flood in the 1990s. The Murals pay tribute to this historic event.

Australian and South African natives plus varieties of Stattis grow on this two and half acre site, the Alpha Native Flower Garden, located beside Alpha Creek. Feel free to stroll amongst the endemic plant species keeping a look out for the many native birds and wildlife that also utilize the flower garden. Remember to take your camera for the perfect photo opportunity.

The volunteers at the Rowley Roberts Tourist Information Centre can show you examples of petrified wood and direct you to where you might see this in its natural setting.

Petrified wood is a type of fossil, in which the tissues of a dead plant are replaced with minerals (most often a silicate, such as quartz). The petrifaction process occurs underground, when wood or woody materials suddenly become buried under sediment. Mineral-rich water flowing through the sediment deposits minerals in the plant's cells and as the plant's lignin and cellulose decays away, a stone cast is left in its place.

The Centre is located west of Emerald in Alpha.

The rainforest walk at Cedar Grove features huge red cedar and fig trees. Cedar Grove and Amamoor Creek camping areas have large flat sites. In August, the annual National Country Music Muster takes place here.

Once a favourite spot for aboriginal corroborees, the area is now a beautiful park, centred on the Ululah Lagoon. In 1852, the first land sales were held for the new town here, in a simple slab hut. Horse-drawn scoops were used to clear the lagoon to form Maryborough’s first water supply in 1859. The lagoon is now surrounded by a walk and cycle path which is also frequently in use by the abundant wildlife who make the lagoon home.

Anzac Park being Maryborough’s major playground contains a skate bowl, children's fort, flying fox and other play equipment, barbecues, picnic facilities and toilet blocks. The park also has facilities for visitors with a disability including a liberty swing.

The Anzac Square War Memorial is uniquely and ideally set in peaceful surrounds amidst the hustle and bustle of city life. Centrally located, Anzac Square is dedicated to Australia's military heritage. The Shrine of Remembrance, with its Eternal Flame, forms the focal point for the radially patterned pathways, pools, lawns and Bribie Island Pine Bottle trees.

There are Touch-Tell systems in place that explain the significance of Anzac Square to visitors. Co-located beside Anzac Square, in the pedestrian tunnel, is the World War II Shrine of Memories. Visitors can view Honour Rolls, Unit Plaques and a mosaic containing over 140,000 hand-cut Venetian glass enamels and soils from official World War II cemeteries.

Apex Park is the site of the first public hospital in Kingaroy and was developed by the Apex Club in the mid 1960's. The large trees that remain today are the plantings from the hospital grounds. A resident of the area donated the steam engine in the centre of the park.

There is a memorial in the park in the memory of Matron Norma McDiarmid (1915-1944) erected by Kingaroy Past and Present Nurses Association.

A walking track through the native bush takes you from the park to the lookout on Coral Street. From the viewing platform you will find panoramic views of Kingaroy and its surroundings including the majestic peanut silos, Tarong Power Station and Coolabunia Hill (home to Sir Joh and Lady Florence Bjelke-Petersen). Looking towards the southwest you are rewarded with expansive views of the Bunya Mountains, Queenslands second oldest National Park established in 1908.

There is a large playground for the children to enjoy while you sit under the large shade trees and relax. Bring your lunch and enjoy a pleasant afternoon in the peaceful surroundings of this shady park.

Aquasearch Aquarium is the only facility on Magnetic Island for viewing a marine display and is unique in that it features 26 year old cultured Tridacna gigas, the true giant clam, as a part of the biofiltration of this aquarium. The specimens from this cohort were spawned by Doctor Rick Braley during his PhD research. This species of clam is a threatened species listed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, and also the largest bivalve shellfish ever to live in the fossil record.

The display also has many species of corals, anemones, reef fish, including the real Nemo and Dory. Aquasearch also has a wet laboratory for breeding of marine anemonefish and selected freshwater fish, and an airconditioned dry laboratory with microscopes and a live foods section. Full tours include the display, laboratories and a video in the breezeway of their home. They also offer short aquaculture training and consultancy work in aquaculture and marine biology.

Aquativity is a fun, interactive water-play park right in the heart of Brisbane's South Bank. It is especially designed to encourage families and children to come together and enjoy the outdoors. It celebrates Brisbane’s close relationship with the Brisbane River.

Aquativity features educational play elements referencing the river, and helps create an early understanding of the water cycle and its preservation.

The picturesque Heritage Trail is a scenic loop between Aramac and Muttaburra. The trail showcases a diversity of landscapes as you travel through black soil open downs country, to the desert uplands, up or down the Jump Up and past natural lakes. A number of attractions are seen on the drive, including the Pump Hole, Broadwater, Muttaburrasaurus, Lake Galilee, Lake Dunn, the Jump Up, Grey Rock and the White Bull.

The Trail is 194 kilometres long and will take a full day to complete. The road is mostly gravel with some black soil and may become impassable after rain. Please ensure you drive to the conditions of the road.

The Araucaria Lookout Track in the Binna Burra section of Lamington National Park is reached by following the Border Track to the foot of Mount Hobwee. For much of this section, the track winds upwards along the Beechmont Range through subtropical rainforest, with occasional sections where Antarctic Beech is prominent.

A turnoff to the left takes walkers to Araucaria Lookout, Mount Hobwee or Mount Wagawn.

Araucaria Lookout is the first option on the left, with a suitable lunch spot on the track - the Orchid Bower. A set of steps leads up the rock wall to a lookout that provides spectacular views of the Mount Warning caldera.

The final track to the summit of the lookout leaves the loop track and follows the ridge through a small area of open heath dotted with clumps of rock orchids. The summit gives spectacular panoramas of the Springbrook Range and the Mount Warning Caldera.

Archer Park Rail Museum contains several exhibitions associated with railways and the Rockhampton Council Tramways. Rolling stock and rail memorabilia have been collected from a variety of sources including private collectors, former rail workers, the Capricorn Heritage Rail Association (The Friends of Archer Park) and Queensland Rail.

Purrey Steam Tram rides are available on Sundays between 10 am to 1pm free of charge, except on Family Fun Days that are held every second month where there is a small charge, and from the end of November until the beginning of February.

The Archer Park Railway Station is located on the infamous Denison Street, (where the main rail runs down the centre of the street) in Rockhampton, between Archer and Cambridge Streets.

Armstrong Beach is renowned for its fishing and prawning, both of which are best attempted from the beach. A Four Wheel Drive is required to launch a boat from the beach so be prepared for the launch. From Armstrong Beach head to Freshwater Point, which is where Captain Cook first landed in 1770 looking for freshwater, hence its name. Armstrong Beach facilities including a picnic area and caravan park accommodation.

The Army Museum of North Queensland is located within Jezzine Barracks, Kissing Point in Townsville. The Museum collects and exhibits memorabilia associated with past and current military units and personnel from North Queensland, including a geographic area between Rockhampton in the south, extending north to Torres Strait and west to the Northern Territory border. The Collection extends from the establishment of the first defences at Townsville and Thursday Island until the present day.

Initially housed in the old Kissing Point Fort, the new Museum has moved to the newly refurbished building at the centre of Jezzine barracks. Showcased within the Museum is a gallery displaying pre-federation Army and a gallery showing more recent conflicts of Vietnam and Korea, and the history of Sir John Lavararck and Lavarack Barracks. A third gallery is planned for 2012 and will house World War I and World War II displays, including the Townsville Honour Boards from both these conflicts.

Art and Craft Markets are held from 8.00 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. Sundays on the Gold Coast beachfront. They feature over 200 outdoor stalls displaying a wide variety of locally handmade products, ideal for souvenirs, mementos and unique gifts. The markets are held on the beachfront on the first Sunday of the month at Broadbeach, the second Sunday at Coolangatta, the third Sunday at Broadbeach and the last Sunday at Burleigh. The Sunday markets are held year round.

In Auburn River National Park, the spectacular Auburn River flows over huge salmon-coloured boulders as it courses through a steep-sided gorge. Look up along the clifftops for the nests of Peregrine falcons. The forest and waterholes are also good spots for birdwatching. Weeping red bottlebrushes contrast with dark green stunted figs and flowering tea-trees along the creek. In spring, there are wildflowers to admire. A 150 metre walking track leads to a lookout far above the river. Another quite strenuous trail winds down the side of the gorge.

There is nothing like having a connection to Bushrangers. During the late 1800s and early 1900s, the notorious Bushrangers, the Kenniff Brothers tethered their horses under this magnificent old Coolibah tree, between their many cattle and horse stealing escapades.

Often referred to, (but not entirely accurate) as 'Australia’s Last Bushrangers', Patrick and James (Jimmy) Kenniff, lived a life filled with horse stealing, cattle duffing, armed robbery and let’s not forget murder!

Growing up in New South Wales, the boys moved to Queensland in the 1890's. Settling in and around the Mitchell area, it wasn't long before their career in stealing horses and cattle from surrounding properties began. After several years of this rascally lifestyle the boys were finally captured, their trial was held at the Roma Magistrate Court.

Their fate – one sentenced to jail, the other hung. More information on the Kenniff Brothers is on display at the Kenniff Tree in Augathella.

Augathella has a colourful and unique history full of Bullock Teams, notorious Bushrangers, Shearing, Rodeos and Outback Life. To celebrate this history, a 20 minute documentary has been produced and can be viewed on request, Monday to Friday from 9.00 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.

The Walls in the Theatre are covered with Murals depicting Augathella's colourful history, including the 'famous Captain Starlight'.

A picture speaks 1000 words. Many of the buildings and fences along Main Street Augathella feature a fabulous series of murals depicting much of Augathella’s history.

The latest Mural explains the 'Smiley' story. For those of you that may not be aware, it was in Augathella that the character 'Smiley', from the classic Australian Smiley movies, was penned. Some of the scenes were filmed in Augathella.

The Augathella Murals bring back memories of the shearing industry and quirky Outback events like billygoat racing.

Who is the artist you ask? Answer - The Augathella Community. About 50 community members got together and painted. Their inspiration was their love for the town, its history and culture.

Augathella has a wonderful collection of rustic Wrought Iron Sculptures. Along Main Street you will find them. They are whimsical and humorous and well worth a look.

Australian Age of Dinosaurs is home to the world's largest collection of Australian dinosaur fossils. A working dinosaur museum and research laboratory, it's located on 1,400 hectares of spectacular mesa plateau with vast scenery, wildlife and walking trails. At the museum you'll see and hear about their exciting dinosaurs, including gigantic sauropods and "Banjo", Australia's greatest carnivorous dinosaur. Staff invite everyone to be directly involved in this exciting initiative; prepare a real dinosaur bone in their Prep Lab, or book in to be part of a real dinosaur dig. With your help they can bring the prehistory to life!!

Australian Butterfly Sanctuary is the largest butterfly flight aviary and exhibit in Australia – an all-weather experience in the heart of Kuranda. Home to over 1,500 magnificent tropical butterflies, you will be enchanted by the aerial dynamics of these elusive wonders of nature as you wander through the aviary's rainforest gardens.

All butterflies are local rainforest species, including the electric blue Ulysses and the majestic green and yellow Cairns Birdwing butterflies.

After walking through the aviary, your guide will take you to the breeding laboratory, which houses up to 4,000 caterpillars. The Australian Motorcycle Museum is a private collection of over 200 motorcycles. These range from the late 1880's up to current models. There is a range of marques and models from all over the world.

Opened in 1977 the Australian Sugar Industry Museum is a modern complex covering some 14,000 square. The Museum's collection comprises of contemporary and historical photographs, books, documents, domestic objects and artefacts related to Australia's sugar industry. Historic tractors, locomotives, harvesters, implements and a working model of a 500 horse power driven crushing engine are on permanent display.

Many static displays depict the history of the sugar industry, including South Sea Islander involvement, a Cane Barrack Kitchen, Stables and a Blacksmith Shop.

The professionally equipped 50 seat theatre features an audio visual presentation that describes the history, growing, harvesting, milling and refining of sugar in Australia.

Discover at your own pace the Australian Workers Heritage Centre - a place of reflection, within this museum styled complex, visitors can journey through exhibition space which celebrates the extraordinary legacy of working Australians telling a vitally important part of our nation's history through its working life via interactive displays, film, photographs, artefacts and recreated historical work settings.

Sited in the grounds of the former Barcaldine State School, many of the original structures have been re-invented into exhibition space. Historical work places of yesteryear, including a one teacher school, police watch house and railway station, have been relocated to the Centre from throughout Queensland.

Home of the "Young-Un' an enduring legacy - this offspring is the only direct descendant of the Heritage listed 'Tree of Knowledge' - symbolic of the Shearers Strike of 1891.

Set in over two hectares, the Workers Heritage Centre has been designed with the weary traveller in mind. Beautifully landscaped gardens and shady trees surround a sparkling bore fed billabong creating a cool outback oasis, with the convenience of picnic, barbecue and playground facilities.

Autumn Park is situated on the corner of Drayton and Cairns Street, Nanango, and is the most recently built recreational park in Nanango.

The Nanango Shire Council established it in February/March 1997 on the site of the old saleyard. The first stockyards built belonged to Jacob Goode. They were located between his Inn and Chinaman's Waterhole.

Today, Autumn Park provides an appealing entry to the township of Nanango, but you should not forget the lives that blossomed and declined with the fortunes of the saleyards that once covered this area. This park is a National Serviceman's Memorial Park. The flag will fly day and night as a constant reminder of the contribution of the young men who served.

Aventine Wines' vineyards are situated on shallow weathered granite soils at Ballandean, in the heart of Queensland's' premier wine region, the Granite Belt. The vineyards are high altitude (approximately 1000 metres above sea level), north facing hillsides, and maximising exposure to the sun's warmth similar to Ancient Roman vineyards.

The vines are hand pruned, and the grapes are hand picked. The wines are crafted by hand and heart using traditional wine making involving minimal interference, and are an expression of the place where they are grown.

Apart from traditional wine styles, they also produce special non commercial styles and blends. Come and experience wines which are an expression of the place they are grown.

Bait Reef, located off Hamilton Island, is one of the best known and most spectacular locations on the Great Barrier Reef. Gary's Lagoon is well protected, making it a great site for snorkellers and beginner divers. The coral cover is excellent and the lagoon makes for easy diving before venturing into deeper water just outside the entrance. The lagoon is home to all sorts of tropical marine life including large soft corals, reef fish, turtles, wobbegongs and the occasional manta ray.

Bakers Bend fishing spot on the Warrego River is one of the best camp sites on the River. The banks are grassy, the trees shady, and peace and quiet, well let’s just say it doesn't come any better than this. In 1932 the virgin country at this site became a farm producing oranges, pumpkins, tomatoes, melons and beans. Local folklore states that this waterhole has never gone dry.

There are no amenities here, just you and the Warrego River. Plenty of the local fishing yarns have originated from this spot. Why not head out, throw a line in and create your own outback fishing yarn, to take back to your friends and family when you get home.

Bakers Military Memorabilia Museum is unquestionably one of the best displays of military memorabilia outside the Canberra war memorial as is the 'wrap' that has been placed on the collections at Bakers Museum. The collection also includes countless items associated with various emergency services including police, ambulance, and nurses. The museum also showcases appliances from bygone eras making the collection tally over 27,000 items.

Bald Rock National Park is located 45 minutes south of Stanthorpe on the Mount Lindesay Highway. Bald Rock is the main feature of the National Park. This dome is 750 metres long and 500 metres wide. It rises 200 metres above the surrounding bushland, and is the largest exposed granite type rock in Australia.

There are canyons and stone arches on the three hour return walk to the summit, which offers panoramic views. Other walks (four kilometres to 14 kilometres return) take in the surrounding granite country. The track to the foot of Bald Rock is wheelchair accessible with assistance.

Boonoo Boonoo National Park is a few minutes further south of Bald Rock National Park. In summer, this is the ideal place to be, as the main feature of this National Park is the Boonoo Boonoo River and its waterfalls. Picnic and bush camping facilities are available at both parks.

Located 7.4 kilometres from Quilpie on the Toompine Road rests a red rocky formation, aptly named Baldy Top Lookout. Part of the Grey Range, Baldy Top is one of the most elevated points in South West Queensland.

Explore caves and crevices, untouched by civilisation whilst traversing this magnificent boulder formation which was created naturally over millions of years.

A climb to the summit of Baldy Top is a relatively easy ten minute scramble. Although Baldy Top appears quite small in its surroundings, once atop this hill, one is amazed by the breathtaking panoramic landscapes that stretch as far as your imagination.

As ancient as time itself, Baldy Top offers visitors stunning sunsets whilst experiencing the serenity and solitude of the Outback.

You have not seen the Australian Outback until you have seen it from Baldy Top.

Balgal Beach is a beachside community popular as a day and overnight trip destination for locals and tourists to Thuringowa and Townsville. Just a few minutes from Rollingstone, Balgal Beach features a stinger net, which is installed and patrolled from November to May, and an excellent boat ramp facility with easy access to the Palm Island group. It boasts a superb sand beach as well as a wide creek mouth and is a renowned beach and river fishing location.

Other activities include visiting the Anzac memorial, viewing the interpretive historic signage, having a picnic and barbecue at the park, bird watching and fishing.
