With the value of the Australian Dollar at an all-time high against the US Greenback, plus the release of the latest Qantas "Escape to the States" airfares, NOW is the time to plan your holiday to the USA and Caribbean.
Kids, big and small, will love Disneyland Anaheim. There are hotels for less than US$60 per night like the Alamo Inn and Suites or Quality Inn and Suites Anaheim, or choose your own Anaheim Hotel. But for us, it’s Disney all the way. The standard rooms at Disneyland Paradise Pier are around USD$240 per night, USD$260 at the Disneyland Hotel and USD$360 at the newer Disney’s Grand Californian.
We love Disney's Grand Californian resort themed around the Arts and Crafts movement of the early 1900’s. If you can tear yourself away from this amazing complex, plan to spend most of your time actually at Disneyland and the newer Disney’s California Adventure Park... zippity doo dah...
Ok we understand, perhaps Disneyland just isn't your thang. Maybe reggae and a rum cocktail is more your style? Then head to Miami and skip over to the island of Jamaica for some serious relaxation mon. Resorts are dotted along the beach locations of Negril, Ocho Rios and Runaway Bay. These north coast locations are home to the famous sandy white beaches and the laid back Rasta lifestyle.
But you don't have to stay at a resort. The Doctors Cave Beach Hotel in Montego Bay is directly opposite the famous Doctors Cave Beach. Twin share rooms start from USD$90 (plus local taxes) per night. Be sure to check out Montego Bay's "Hip Strip" including Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville. It's a bar/restaurant/club complete with a waterslide that winds its way from the rooftop terrace and dumps you into the Caribbean below! For a more grown up night out, try the upmarket Marguerites seafood restaurant.
Don't limit yourself to all beach action, as tempting as that may be. Explore the island’s magnificent interior with rainforest-clad mountains, patchwork cane-fields, wildlife sanctuaries and stunning Dunn’s River Falls. Go horse-riding, river tubing, sailing, try a Jeep or ATV Safari, or float along on the Martha Brae River Rafting tour... irie mon!
