Melbourne Airport, or Tullamarine International Airport, is located around 25 kilometres from the Melbourne CBD. There are over 30 international and domestic airlines operating out of Melbourne’s four terminals. All departures are from the upper level of the terminal, while arrivals are on the ground floor.
The airport terminal also houses a range of retail outlets, cafes, currency exchange, souvenirs and duty free stores.
There is limited public transport access from Melbourne city and suburbs to Tullamarine so it is recommended to travel by taxi or airport shuttle.
There are taxi ranks located outside all terminals which are clearly signed and manned by Airport traffic co-ordinators. The average taxi fare from Melbourne Airport to Melbourne CBD is around AUD$50. Use the online taxi fare calculator for a guide to the fare to your destination.
SkyBus is an express bus service between Melbourne Airport and Melbourne’s Southern Cross Station in the city. There are also complimentary hotel transfers during certain hours. The SkyBus operates 24hours/7days a week and buses run every 10 minutes throughout the day. Tickets can be purchased at the bus stop, or ordered online.
Jetbus also runs transfers between Melbourne City and Melbourne Airport from 6am to midnight. Jetbus also drops off at residential addresses within the CBD, Southbank, Docklands, South Melbourne and Port Melbourne areas.
If you are travelling to Melbourne Airport from the suburbs, there are a range of shuttle bus companies that offer transfers. Airport Bus Eastside offers transfers from the northern and eastern suburbs; AirportBus runs from southern and peninsula suburbs and Airport Bus Dandenong services suburbs in south-eastern Melbourne through to Cranbourne.
If you plan on renting a car, all major car rental companies have offices located at the Melbourne Airport. As some of Melbourne’s roads are tollways, be sure to discuss the options for paying your CityLink tolls before you collect your vehicle.
For those driving to the airport, there are various options for Melbourne Airport Parking ranging from express, short-term, long-term and business parking. You can calculate your parking costs and options at the Melbourne Airport Parking Calculator.
