Rendezvous Hotels and Resorts International to Manage Duxton Hotel Melbourne
November 2005 –Rendezvous Hotels (Australia) Pty Ltd has been engaged
by the Rendezvous Flinders Street Trust to manage the historic 338 room
Duxton Hotel, Melbourne, to be re-named Rendezvous
Hotel, Melbourne. This followed the signing of a contract of sale
for the Duxton Hotel on Friday 18th November. Rendezvous is expected to
assume management of the hotel on 8th December 2005.
Rendezvous CEO, Mr Alan Featherby, says, “Rendezvous is pleased
to be adding such a Melbourne landmark hotel to its group. We are
very confident that under Rendezvous’ guidance the hotel will
experience strong growth and profitability into the foreseeable future.
This will bring to ten the number of hotels and resorts operated by
Rendezvous. Featherby said that he expects to announce another property
to be managed by Rendezvous in December this year.”
The vendor, Low Keng Huat (Singapore) Ltd., said it was very pleased
that the hotel would be managed by a hotel group with such a substantial
presence in Australia.
Built in 1913 as the Commercial Travellers Club, the Duxton Hotel
is a heritage-listed building located on Flinders Street which has
been meticulously restored to its original splendour. The Commercial
Travellers Club held a significant place in Australia's history being
home for travelling politicians and dignitaries. The hotel is a significant
player in the 4 star plus market and a recognised quality corporate
hotel in Melbourne.
