Sukhothai is one of Thailand’s richly historical cities. It was once the capital and the first kingdom of Siam under the rule of King Ramkhamhaeng in the 13th century. Because the temples and monuments have been well-maintained, the Sukhothai Heritage Park was declared a UNESCO Heritage Site. Other attractions include the Ramkhamhaeng National Park, the Royal Palace, the Ramkhamhaeng National Museum, the Sri Satchanalai National Park, and Wat Mahathat. For tourists, the best time of the year to visit the city is when the climate is cool, on the months of November to February.
Once you have settled in the city, don’t hesitate to rent a bike or ride a tuktuk and explore on your own or with your friends. There are bike rentals around the area. Exploring the ruins of Old Sukhothai on foot can be extremely tiring, so biking is a great alternative. You can walk around the park at sunrise and watch the sun’s rays reflect on the Buddha statues, creating a misty orange glow. Tourists will also enjoy walking around the market and trying out some of the local delicacies. The city has many budget and mid-range accommodations and restaurants that offer quality service.
