About Singapore
Uniquely Singapore! Unique heritage, attractions, ambience
and cuisine. Singapore is a tiny teardrop island at the tip of the Malay penninsula
just north of the Equator with a tropical climate, hot and humid all year round
and about 7 hours flying time north west of Sydney, Australia.
An independent republic and gateway to South East Asia,
Singapore is a dynamic city with a mix of Chinese, Malay, Indian and European
cultures. It is a clean, safe place to visit, its amenities are second to none
and its public places are smoke-free and hygienic. Forming the core of downtown
Singapore is the Colonial District. Each surrounding enclave has its own distinct
flavor, from the aromatic spice stores of Little India, to the tumbledown backstreets
of Chinatown, where it is still possible to find calligraphers and fortune tellers,
or the Arab Quarter, whose cluttered stores sell fine cloths and silks.
North of the city, are two nature preserves, Bukit
Timah and the Central Catchment Area, along with the splendid Singapore Zoological
Gardens. The east coast features fantastic seafood restaurants set on long stretches
of sandy beaches. In addition there are over fifty islands and islets within
Singaporean waters, day trips are popular to Sentosa, the island amusement arcade
which is linked to the south coast by a short causeway and cable car. Music,
festivals, theatre, fabulous food and shopping and nightlife are all abundant
in this remarkable city.

50 Keong Saik Road
Singapore Chinatown
Singapore
Location Located in the colorful area of Keong Siak Street and on the fringe of Chinatown, the buildings consist of pre-war shop houses (aptly named after its build date, 1929) which is the alternative to the ubiquitous glass and concrete modern hotels. Rooms The hotel has managed to marry the old with the new. The rooms are definitely modern with white walls, flat panel TV and white bedding. The finishing is a cut above hotels of similar standards. The chair is a refurbish European designer original from the owners collection. Bathrooms are an all glass affair with no screens. The rooms are furnished in either single or double only bed configuration (no twins) so is couple friendly. For the bold, the rooftop penthouse suite offers an outdoor bathtub for al fresco baths. Despite it size, the hotel has a deck with Jacuzzi in the back. Restaurant The restaurant Ember, in keeping with the mod look of the hotel exudes quality and style in both the food (European with Asian touches) and style. It is fine dining experience but without the pain on the wallet. General Can be arguably described as a designer boutique hotel. It is Singapores newest little hip hotel and is setting the standards in a very contrastingly old neighborhood. Couple and gay friendly, it is also for young and trendy at a very reasonable price. Highly recommended. |

36 Temple Street, 058581
Singapore Chinatown
Singapore
Location Located on Temple Street in the heart of old Chinatown where much of the old shophouses still exist. Shophouses were once the abode of merchants who did business on the ground level and their families lived in the floors above. The Inn is itself a coverted shophouse built before the WWII. Within Chinatown, these colorful shophouse lend an air of charm together with some chintzy souvenier shops and some genuine handicraft shops. Rooms The interior of the hotel has a historical feel to it with carved wood decorations and faux antique furniture. The rooms being in a small building is a little cramped. The bathrooms are in white and dark green tiles in antique style although all amenities like shower stalls and taps are thoroughly modern. Restaurant There is a restaurant to the left of the check in counter where breakfast is served. This restaurant specialises in local desserts. General A very quaint little boutique hotel located in the heart of Chinatown. As authentic as can be with the sights and smells of old Chinatown. Try to visit the wet market and hawker centre on the next street where the locals still come to shop and eat. There are lots of authentic dishes to try and cheap shopping on hand. |
