Caye Caulker Belize "Go Slow"
There are two ways to get to Caye Caulker Belize, by air or by water taxi. The water taxis takes 30 or more people with luggage so its a little more like a water bus. If you arrive by water taxi to Caulker you can see the "Welcome to Caye Caulker" sign on the side of the water taxis or ferry office. A little further down the wooden wharf there is a short section of concrete which then turns into a sandy dirt road which is what all roads on the island are made of. A small sign in the concrete says "Welcome to Caye Caulker, Go slow" you probably won't notice it because you will either be looking at the amazing blue water along the coastline of the island or wondering how you get to your hotel from here. Several local 'guides' will take you luggage by bicycle and help you find your hotel for USD$2 or USD$3.

Caye Caulker is about 30 minutes by water taxi from San Pedro Ambergris Caye and also 30 minutes from Belize City. Although you may get the best view from the back of the water taxi be prepared to have a windy ride and beware of sea spray! Some of the water taxis between Caye Caulker and San Pedro are completely open air with no canopy (I'm really not sure if they use the boats with a canopy when it's raining or not?). The boats are a decent size, carry around 30 people with luggage, and are equipped with three 250hp outboards engines which looks pretty impressive (if you are into engines that is). The Caye Caulker water taxi ride is surprisingly smooth even in very windy conditions as the barrier reef keeps the swell down.

| Main Street of Caye Caulker |
There are three places to get a cappuccino on the island, all are on the main street, one is the italian restaurant in the north of the town, one is the art gallery in the centre of town and the other is a cafe on the south side of the main street. The art gallery claims to have the best coffee on the island.
Activities around Caye Caulker include scuba diving, snorkeling, fly fishing and Mayan ruin tours. Caye Caulker has developed it's own 'Shark-Ray Alley' similar to the Hol Chan marine park off San Pedro. The original Shark Ray alley in the Hol Chan marine park started when fishermen would throw away unwanted fish scraps. As sting rays and reef sharks are largely scavengers of the sea they would enjoy the fisherman's left overs. The Shark-Ray alley in Caye Caulker was started by feeding the reef sharks and sting rays in a similar manner, now the rays and sharks know they can get a feed whenever a tourist boat turns up and they are quick to swarm towards any boat that arrives.
The leeward or west side of Caye Caulker island has a seahorse sanctuary and the entrance to the second largest underwater cave system in Belize. Neither the seahorse sanctuary or the cave system is clearly signed so you will need local help or a tour guide to find them.
