Bundaberg, the Southern Gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, is a town found in Queensland, Australia. It is well known for its thriving ginger beer, rum, and sugar industries. From Brisbane, the town is an estimated four hour drive away. It can also be reached by plane. There are usually four flights a day from Brisbane.
On the coast just east of Bundaberg is the Mon Repos turtle rookery. This is where turtles return each year on the month of December to lay their eggs. Laying and hatching happens at night, and visitors need to be with a ranger to see the turtles. About 20km from Bundaberg are mystery craters. Tourists can come here for free to see the 30 craters set in large area that looks like a suburban backyard. Another free attraction is the Basin at the southern end of the Esplanade. Tropical fish can be fed and watched here. Tourists can even swim with the fish but are responsible for bringing their own snorkels and masks. Other attractions in the town include the Bundaberg Barrel, the Hinkler House Memorial Museum, the Botanic Gardens, and the Bundaberg Rum Distillery. There are lots of things to in the town. Tourists are welcome to walk around and explore every day.
