Hotel Description
Whether you are a corporate client requiring a luxurious but convenient location, or looking for a break out of the ordinary, MacArthur Chambers can offer something to suit every requirement. MacArthur Chambers offers the perfect position to conduct business, catch the latest stage show, enjoy a weekend of shopping with the girls, attend a wedding or enjoy a romantic anniversary. Spoil yourself with entry to one of Brisbane's finest exclusive clubs, Tattersall's, and enjoy a relaxed breakfast, lunch or dinner when you are a guest of MacArthur Chambers. A stunning sandstone building, MacArthur Chambers was constructed between 1931 and 1934, and was originally headquarters for the Australian Mutual Provident Society. However, the building became an important part of Australian history when in July 1942 American General Douglas MacArthur - Commander-In-Chief of the Allied Forces for the Pacific Region - moved to Brisbane and commandeered the premises as a base to conduct the crucial Pacific Campaign of World War II. And so the building came to be known as MacArthur Chambers. In keeping with this remarkable history, a permanent memorial featuring General MacArthur's original office is open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays from 10am-3pm. IF MAKING A BOOKING AFTER RECEPTION HOURS, YOU MUST CALL THE HOTEL ON 07 3221 9229 TO RE-CONFIRM YOUR ARRIVAL. MacArthur Chambers is a totally non-smoking hotel.
