Taupo, a town populated by approximately 23,000 people, is situated on the centre of New Zealand’s North Island. The town is famous for its close proximity to some of the world’s most picturesque locations. Its natural attractions include the pristine Great Taupo Lake which is the largest lake of Australasia, the volcanoes, and the famous Huka waterfalls.
One of the town’s main forms of income is its tourism. In the summer, it is popular to many guests who enjoy skydiving, paragliding, and jet boating. It scenic landscape is so beautiful that executives of The Hobbit, prequel to the world-renowned Lord Of The Rings trilogy, have chosen the town as its set. Annual local and international sporting events are held in the town. These events include The Great Lake Relay, Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge, Oxfam Trailwalker, and Ironman New Zealand.
There are several ways to reach the town. Although it isn’t linked to New Zealand’s national rail network, the state highway can be used. There are direct flights to and from Auckland and Wellington as well.
